It’s the most famous and arguably the toughest desert rally in the world. Participants cover 15 stages, some comprising of an unbelievable 800km per stage, on almost impassable routes. Except for a single day’s break, the teams are constantly on the road. At the end of each stage they must repair their vehicles, replace vital parts and optimise any imperfections. Time to rest? Not a chance! So it’s little wonder that fewer than 50% of those that start actually reach the finish line.
